It’s been a while since Sourcing Interests Group held a regional meeting in Dallas. But they did today at the Energy Plaza in downtown. Hosted by Oncor Electric Delivery, a small group of sourcing professionals discussed the challenges they’ve faced in outsourcing, the economy, and shared best practices that they’ve seen making sourcing engagements successful. Sarah Holliman, Director of Regional Meetings, facilitated the meeting. Tata Consulting Services’ Tarun Bhagat, the BPO head of the Solutions Unit of TCS, gave a market perspective on the trend toward vertical specific BPO. Alsbridge’s Managing Director Joe Hogan discussed the pros and cons of outsourcing, the economy and how it’s been a driver for sourcing in the past year and a half since the downturn, and how the key is to put yourself in a position to make good decisions. Oncor’s Hagen Haentsch discussed their CREZ project, or Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ). Haentsch took the group of professionals from the beginning of their journey, talked about their RFP process, standardization and automation, and other key enablers that made CREZ successful. The presentations followed with an informal Q&A session that allowed the attendees, who were from companies including Verizon, Insight, and USAA, to openly share and glean from each other’s sourcing experiences, successes and failures. Part of this session focused on the role of a consultant in an outsourcing engagement and overcoming cultural barriers in a sourcing relationship, in which the group discussed site visits, spending time on each other’s turf if you will, brown bag sessions, and of course, happy hour. Happy hour….now that sounds like a good idea! Until next time… Visit SIG online at www.sourcinginterests.org to register for a regional meeting near you. |
